The Literacy Network currently does not have any job openings.

We will be looking for AmeriCorps participants for the 2010 service year.

The Literacy Network of Greater Los Angeles is proud to present for the first time in Los Angeles the Literacy* AmeriCorps, a national service program hiring full-time paid members for the 2008-2009 program year. We are putting together a fun and diverse team of Literacy*AmeriCorps members who will teach adults how to read throughout Los Angeles.

Literacy* AmeriCorps members will work full-time, tutoring and assisting with the administration of the Volunteer for Literacy program.  These dedicated members will strengthen and sustain the tutoring program at sites that otherwise would not have the capacity to provide tutoring support to their adult learners.

Literacy* AmeriCorps Member Commitments:

  • Commit to serving full time (1700 hours) for 11-months
  • Service period: September 19, 2008 through August 18, 2009
  • Provide literacy tutoring service at the host service site (i.e., countywide nonprofits, libraries, community colleges and alternative education programs)
  • Recruit volunteer tutors and adult learners for service site
  • Engage in monthly professional development workshops and community building activities

Literacy*AmeriCorps Members Receive:

  • $12,500 stipend
  • $4,725 education award (to go towards tuition or student loans)
  • Health care benefits
  • Year-long training
  • Literacy Network e-mail and program space in the LA Times Building
