Michaela Pereira, KTLA Morning News Anchor, was the emcee for the event offering her own personal stories relating to the literacy problem in our community.  The festivities began with seasonal songs sung by the 3rd and 4th graders of St. Agnes Children’s Choir.  Blance Garcia told of her own success with the Motheread, a learning curriculum that teaches parents to read to their children.  Jennifer Evans, CEO of the Evans Group, presented a fashion show with beatiful garments from jae apparel.  The clothes were made by her staff who had been trained through our Adult Literacy Program with a program that had been customized for the garment industry.  “Teaching people to read is a life changing experience for two people – the one who cares enough to teach and the other who cares enough to learn.  The luncheon celebrated the extraordinary results of this inspiring relationship,” said Cristina Rose, Event Chair.
