Annual Literacy Summit
The Literacy Summit is a professional development conference held annually for literacy providers within the Network. For the past several years, the event has been at the Skirball Cultural Center in West Los Angeles.

2006 Literacy Summit - WriteGirl displays information on their organization at the Literacy Provider Fair.
The goal of the event is to present information that agencies can take back to their own organization that will be useful to them as they implement their own programming.
- The 2005 Summit featured Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa as a luncheon keynote speaker.
- In 2006, our featured keynote speaker was John Corcoran, author of the autobiographical, The Teacher Who Couldn’t Read.
- At the 2007 Summit, we were honored to welcome Dr. Tyree Wieder, President of Los Angeles Valley College, as our keynote speaker
The Summit features different sessions that address a wide range of literacy-related topics to appeal to our diverse audience. Some of the past topics have included:
- DELICACY: Delivering ESL & Literacy in Culinary Arts Capacity
- Creating Readers for Life
- How to Manage Your Board and Your Sanity
- Impact of Learning Disability on Performance and Behavior
A recent addition to the Summit is the Provider Fair; this break between sessions gives the attendees a chance to learn about other programs also participating in the Summit and is a great networking opportunity.
