The Literacy Network of Greater Los Angeles hosts events that promote the literacy issue and work to raise awareness throughout the year through fundraisers, networking opportunities, and a professional development conference.
The Literacy Summit is a professional development conference held annually for literacy providers within the Network. For the past several years, the event has been at the Skirball Cultural Center in West Los Angeles. The goal of the event is to present information that agencies can take back to their own organization that will be useful to them as they implement their own programming.
The 2007 Annual Literacy Summit featured speakers Dr. Tyree Weider and Ray Cortines and workshops such as Food, a Universal Language, presented by Dr. Desmonette Hazly, ESL Consultant.
The 2006 Annual Literacy Summit was held at the Skirball Cultural Center and was attended by nearly 200 service providers from the greater Los Angeles community. Speakers included John Corcoran, author of The Teacher Who Couldn't Read, and workshops such as Impact of Learning Disability on Performance and Behavior by S.E. "Bud" Pues.
