B.A.B.Y.
B.A.B.Y. is a 21-lesson program that uses carefully selected multicultural children’s books to initiate discussion and health information sessions for expectant and new parents.
In addition to the Teacher’s Manual, there are three instructional supplements relating to substance abuse, adolescent pregnancy and emergent literacy. The curriculum also includes a mother’s journal workbook and an annotated booklist for use with infants and toddlers.
Topics covered in the training include:
- How to use stories to break through the emotional isolation and fear that many new or young parents initially feel
- Pre-natal issues, such as exactly what to expect during labor and delivery
- Immediate concerns of new parents
- How to develop a stimulating, but safe environment for babies
- Understanding the relationship between reading and early brain development
- Gentle read-aloud techniques that benefit infants
