Literacy NetWorker Program
The Literacy Network of Greater Los Angeles needs to build its own capacity in order to effectively continue offering its variety of programs to the community. Thus, Literacy NetWorkers will provide much needed assistance to staff to support the mission and goals of the Literacy Network.
A Literacy NetWorker is a volunteer or intern who works closely with a staff member on a project or program to assist with administrative work and program/project implementation. Placement is based upon work priorities determined by the staff. A Literacy NetWorker may work with the staff member to which they were assigned for the duration of service or may float from staff to staff throughout the course of service.
Once a Literacy NetWorker has completed:
- An application
- Background check screening
- On-boarding process (training)
He or she is matched with a staff member to work along side on various projects.
Literacy NetWorkers serve 6 months to 1 year (with certain exceptions, i.e., Constitutional Rights Foundation), during the work day (9 AM – 5 PM).
Literacy NetWorkers receive:
- Literacy network e-mail
- Workspace – computer and phone
- Parking pass in coveted downtown Los Angeles
- Well-rounded not-for-profit experience and training
- Professional development opportunities
- Letter of Recommendation upon completion of service
Once a Literacy NetWorker is placed with a staff member, the direct staff supervisor will monitor his or her performance and manage record-keeping. In addition, one interim check-in and an exit interview will be conducted by the Director of Volunteer Services to provide Literacy NetWorkers an opportunity for evaluation of the program to improve the volunteer experience.
Please contact the Director of Volunteer Services:
- If you are interested in volunteering as a Literacy NetWorker
- If you are an organization with students for which this internship is ideal
